Welcome to the Clinton Hunt Club

Move over and make way Clinton Cowboys, the hunter/jumper discipline is taking root in the south Cariboo. The "Clinton Hunt Club" will be a loosely organized group of friends who like horses, want to ride together socially, both recreationally and in competition, for mutual fun and advancement. Though some will jump, show and compete, it is not necessary to do so, nor is english tack and attire a necessity to be a member of the social and recreational end of our group. We don't actually hunt or shoot any animal with anything other than a camera, we just hunt imaginary foxes, or perhaps coyotes, while wearing imaginary red coats. But perhaps a "stirrup cup" might be in order on chilly mornings or hot afternoons. There is no official membership list or dues to pay, just a wish to become involved and participate.

Nancy will be offering english riding lessons on Saturday mornings in our 80' X 200' indoor Coverall arena, geared towards riders who would like to show and jump, either in the hunter/jumper divisions or three day event, or just for fun in a non-competitive way. Nancy has over forty years of equine experiences, ranging from flat english equitation, hunt seat equtation over fences, hunters and jumpers to the highest level, training horses and riders from the start to finished product. Equine Canada Level One coaching certificate aquired in 1983, the first year testing was offered. Trainers and coaches who have been influential in development of Nancy's training theories and riding skills through clinics or lessons... Michael Patrick, Bo Mearns, CC Carpenter, Judy Ross, Dietrech Von Hopfgarten, Kathy Wedge, Lindy Townley, Claudia Cojocar, John Turner, Scott King, Joan Curtin, Brad Laird, George Morris, Chris Campbell. Great Horses "made" in the past and influential in current training theories... Hayden, Grand Prix jumper and multiple jumper champion. Sand and Surf, PNE Amateur Jumper Champion, and later Derby winner in the international ring at Spruce Meadows with Carla Diewert. Sporteke, preliminary and intermediate jumper in BC, then Southern California circuit with Joe Lifto's barn. Hank Flit Bar, hunter. Cruisewear, hunter and jumper with Alan Brand, Debbie Garside and Wayne MacLelland (Ontario). Black Tie, medal horse with Debbie Garside. Sibella, jumper with Tosca Kocken. Many other hunters and low jumpers showing on the lower mainland at schooling shows and A circut shows. Recently focusing more on bringing on and selling good young horses rather than competing with them, horses that have come through our early training program include Eugenius (with Lindy Townley), Curtis (with Cat Armitage), Sweetwater (in Washington State), and several youngsters from our own breeding program by Persian Star, our own TB stallion. For the last 15 years focusing more on TB horseracing than the competitive show ring, with our recent move to Clinton and away from the track, this website is announcing the fact that Nancy is back... and headed to the show ring again, and is willing and able to take along and develop other riders with similar interests in the area.

Haven't jumped before, or ridden english before? But kind of tired or bored of barrel racing or chasing/harassing cows? Give it a try, and open up a whole new world of possibilities for both you and your horse. Lessons start come spring, and the completion of the interior of our arena. Give us a call now. -Most lessons will be offered in groups, matching level of jump size between participants, and/or basic level of riding and training experience. Lessons must have at least four participants to qualify for group rate. Make your own group, and contact us, or perhaps we can group similar participants as you express interest. School horses may be available.

- Lessons for beginner to advanced, children and/or adults who would like to explore the technical riding and training skills necessary for jumping, basic dressage and classical schooling for hunters and jumpers, and gymnastics and jumping training. Truely balanced and effective riding and fair training theories transcend discipline and style of tack used. Goals will be the development of these riding and training skills rather than the short term collection of low level ribbons.

-Theories of training and riding include balanced seat and development of indepentant hand, and effective leg. The engagement of the power of the horse to think and solve puzzles and problems encountered in jump courses, handing over specific duties to the horse for him to take care of in getting to and over the jumps. Jumping successfully requires a team effort between both horse and rider, two minds are better than one. Rather than fight against your horse as an adversary in an attempt to dominate him, ask to enlist his aide in a common goal.

-Development of both skills and confidence for nervous or timid riders.

-Bringing on green horses to competitive jumping levels.

-Fostering a fun and productive relationship and environoment for riders, horses and the group of interested participants as a social unit. Interested riders will go the the local shows with supervision and coaching, and beyond to compete as funds and skills allow. Together, we can do it cheaper. We have a six horse trailer and can pool expenses.

-Private lessons also available if necessary, call for scheduling.

-For insurance purposes, all riders must be members of the Horse Council of BC to be able to ride on our property, and must read and abide by our rules of safety and conduct. This includes approved helmets for every mounted rider, and safe equipment. We are not affiliated with the Rodeo Association, or the Barrel Racing Association.

-Clinics from top travelling clinicians/coaches will be organized in the future, and I hope we can get enough participants involved to make this goal a reality. We can also travel together to clinics offered at other facilities at 100 Mile House, Kamloops, Kelowna, Langley etc. .
